It is probably just a connector to get the 16pin gameport OUT of
the computer.
It was a hassle to plug joystick or paddle into the motherboard.
If you put in an extender cable, the connector is outside the box.
With the ZIF socket, you can plug in paddles for one game,
remove them and plug in joystick for another game.
