stock (the atari st didn't have a built-in speaker like the gs so it
output audio through the monitor). the color monitor (sc1224) and the
monochrome version s124 has speakers; the mono version s125 didn't have a
speaker and was designed for cheaper systems where sound output wasn't
needed.

still do - both color and monochrome

>3. Does anyone know where one could be had these days?

look around at any thrift stores - they're all over the place. the color
models were interchangable with the gs monitors except that the gs used a
common db15 plug and the atari used a weird 13 pin affair (with composite
output on pin 2). the cable is attached to color monitor version 1;
version 2 had a detachable cable. the color monitor output at 15.75khz and
went up to 640 by 200 in medium video mode (although there was software to
trick it to 640x400 by emulating high output mode - really slow).

the st (not the tt or falcon) had 3 video modes - low (similar to IIe
output), medium (similar to gs output) and high (similar to macintosh
output). mono monitors output 640x400 at 31.5khz and could be used with a
pc or mac as a mono monitor. a pc-vga monitor can be used with the proper
cable to do high output monochrome. you needed to reboot the atari st each
time you changed video modes whereas the gs auto-switches between low
(320x200) and medium (640x200) video modes.

the tt and falcon030 had svga modes as well and could attain true color
with enough ram. these 2 systems could switch down to the other 3 video
modes as well with a reboot.
