The IIgs is almost but not quite 100% backwards compatible with the 8
bit Apple IIs.

Pretty much all the expansions cards for the standard slots (1 to 7)
will work. There are some that the faster processor on the IIgs can
cause problems with but can be made to work by slowing the IIgs down
to 1 MHz. There are others that may not work most will be fine. Slot
0 cards from the II/II+ and Aux slot cards from the IIe can't be used
with the IIgs.

There are still new 5.25" floppies available new. I probably have
more than 300 bulk 5.25" floppies that I've never touched in my
storage room so even some of us individuals have "new" floppies
available as well. :-)
