Hmm.  It was originally comp.sys.apple, and I thought the "sources" and
"binaries" groups appeared when it changed to comp.sys.apple2 (in an effort
to dissuade Mac users from posting).  That would've been late 1980s.

Hard to remember these things 15-20 years later. :-)
