Thanks Ed, fortunately however, I have found what the problem may have been:
the cards were, apparently, all in wrong places. I have put the disk
interface into Slot #6 and the Videx Videoterm into #3. Now I can boot just
fine with both drives connected.

I'm not sure where the parallel printer card should be. Any ideas?

In any case, I must say that your replies did help me, at least I guessed
that I am not doing anything very obviously wrong, and that did save me time
and worries.
