Apple PC-Help

A friend who lives some distance from me is seeking my help.
After scanning an item he cannot print it
I find that he has opened a folder on his desktop and saved his scanned file
there.He appears to use his desktop for all his folders.
His other documents appear to be filed in Apple Works.
He is not on line.
When I ask him to locate the equivalent of Windows Explorer he doesn't know
what I mean
As a windows user only could someone tell me what the structure of an Apple
PC is?
Or give me a clue how to tell him what to do. There must be also a list of
programmes on the PC
Any help would be appreciated
