You don't have to make a mounting bracket yourself. You can also buy
the controller with a mounting kit (cable, screws and mounting
brackets) or even a complete and formatted filecard (controller with
drive).

If someone wants to use a relatively small drive (for example 340 MB,
which I had lying around) then its an ideal combination, imho.

When used with ProDOS-partitions it appears to me that it doesn't make
much sense to use a multi-GB-drive, as you are limited to 16 partitions
a 32 MB (around 480 MB total - which is plenty, like Bill said).

Noteworthy things:

The installation is completely painless, the manual is in English.

The drive can be installed and formatted with the supplies utilities.
There is a simple benchmarking-tool and a separate (optional) driver
for GS-OS, which accelerates things. Everything works as expected.

You can choose between two firmwares: 65C02 and 65816. The latter is a
tad faster but only works in a GS of course. If you are unsure which
version to get (if you want to transplant the controller into an IIe
for example) then get the 65C02-firmware. The transfer speed probably
depends on the drive, anyhow.

If you wan't to use two drives you'll probably have to build a cable
yourself, but you should contact your vendor first.

The above link points to the more expensive controller from SHH - but
its also the only DMA-capable IDE-controller from SHH (it may be even
the *only* IDE-controller with DMA, but I'm not sure).

You can't use a CDROM-drive with it, as there are to my knowledge no
drivers to support it. However, nothing prevents you from using an
additional SCSI-controller...

I'm in no way affiliated with SHH but I live in Germany and bought it
