I have one of the AEHD drives. If I connect it to the IIgs floppy port
I can format HD disks at 1.6mb which nothing else reads as far as I
know. If I connect the AEHD drive to a superdrive card it works like a
regular Apple superdrive.
What I meant was that this drive is not a substitute for having a
superdrive card. You can use the drive as a 1.4mb drive with a
superdrive card but it seems a waste when Apple superdrive mechanisms
aren't that hard to find

A floptical is a good option. I didn't mention it because those drives
are pretty hard to find. Another hard to find option is SCSI SuperDisk.
