Bah! All you whipper-snappers with your ][+, //e, //c and GS boxes! Why

back

in the day, you weren't a real Apple II user unless you were using,

well...

a real Apple II with 16K which is all the RAM a real programmer needs.
Integer BASIC and assembly are all you need, phooey on Applesoft (who

needs

FP!). And while macho power users are plenty happy with turbo cassette
drives, I admit my 13 sector floppy is a wonder. Them new fangled 16

sector

controllers just encourage programmers to write sloppier code!

My ][+ had 16K of RAM when I bought it and I later bought an Integer Card
which made it pretty close to a "real" Apple II. And yes I used a cassette
tape recorder for a while but I will admit that when I finally broke down
and bought a floppy drive, Apple was already using 16 sectors.

Yep, my situatiion almost exactly--except that instead of an Integer
Card, I built a 16K card from a bare board. The day I bought the ][+
I bought a GE Cassette deck and a Panasonic 10" TV.

BTW, I found cassettes a very friendly storage medium for programming,
since it was easy to keep a good audit trail of all the previous
versions on the tape, just adding new ones on the end. Of course,
when I added a disk drive (a modified SA400), I never went back. ;-)
