I don't know, I kind of like it like that! I tried it in EditPad Lite, 12 point (looks crummy in other sizes), with black background and bright green or light grey text, and the effect is uncanny! Apart from the fact that I have 157 columns and 38 lines ... plus it is just TOO crisp and clean on my laptop's LCD screen.
