I've been using the null modem driver for so long I don't remember how the 
modem oeration was. Of course it doesn't need to init the modem. It comes 
online ready to send and recieve data. When it disconnectes it maintains the 
last used baud.

As Michael noted the @@1 macro is run at startup. It could be programed to 
dial a null 57600 connection.
