I was thnking to have a boot disk for the IIc+ with Proterm and Shrinkit and then use the 1 Meg RAM card as a RAM disk for temporary program storage.
Is there any advantage to using null-modem vs modem-to-modem? Other than the cost of wiring...
Maybe I'm trying to complicate matters by running a BBS as a server...
would it be possible to use Proterm on both ends and be able to download files to the IIc+???
Well first thing I'd do is add another 3.5" drive, the IIc+ supports the 'normal' 800k drives and does not require the Unidisk like the normal IIc.
Easiest/fastest way to transfer files from my perspective is floppy disk. I just go get what I need when I want it. Just keep in mind that even 5.25" Floppy disks are faster than a serial connection. :)
Essentially a Null modem cable is faster than a modem for data transfer as the modem really only transmit at 56k, even with compression the modem does, you will get better throughput via null modem cable at 115k. Come to think of it, I don't know max speed on a IIc+ port, the modem may get better throughput...
Absolutely you can run comm programs on either end to transfer files, that is why comm programs were made. :)
Be sure to let us know what you decide to do and how it works, i like the idea of a BBS to act as a file server. And of course ask any questions if you run into an issue.
