I can't promise this would lead you anywhere, but various products have
emerged over the years that can read and write Apple- and Mac-style disks.
I know there were ISA boards for PCs that could do this, for instance, and
there was also the Spectre GCR Mac emulator for Atari STs. You might dig
up some relevant information by trying to research these products.
