IISound uses the Apple IIe auxiliary memory to store long sounds i.e.
the memory that goes in the auxiliary slot.
Since the 65816 processor in the IIGS can address more than 64KB
directly there's no need for it to use bank switching. The IIGS emulates
one auxiliary bank so that it can run 128KB IIe software but the rest of
the RAM can only be used by a program written for the IIGS.
IISound could be modified to use the IIGS memory, but the whole point of
the program is to allow Apple IIs without a sound chip to play back
digitised sounds. If you're going to write a special version for the
IIGS you may as well have it use the IIGS sound chip too, since it would
sound a lot better.
