It is possible.  I heard that Derek Taubert, who was writing GS/TCP
for GNO/ME on the IIgs, built himself an adapter to hook up an ISA
ethernet card but neither of these projects were ever released.

Even if an adapter were created, there would be a lot of programming
that would need to be done to get whatever was plugged into the ISA
slot working with the Apple IIs.
