more questions about Apple //c serial connection

Okay, I actually have a "slave" computer system now, set up next to my
//c. It's sole purpose in life is to feed my apple with software and
perhaps other classic computers in the future. It is a pentium 200mhz
with only 48mb of ram and 2gb hard drive. It has a 15" nitor and runs
windows 95 and has the old style long and fat serial port (not the
more commen 9 pin ones). As a side note: it seems odd, but the pc
actually seems more out dated then the //c, go figure. I've talked
to someone on here (willy from garberstreet ent) that is more then
happy to help me get the correct cables etc.. but since I have some
free time I wouldnt mind trying to do it myself... Although I donot do
it for a living, I am a certified computer tech and am no stranger to
building, troubleshooting and hacking computers of all sorts. My
knowlege of the Apple series is very limited (although I already love
them).

My question is, can I go to the store and pick up the parts so I can
build a suitable serial cable? And if so, any tips or guidance as to
what to buy?

One other thing, not sure why, but I love typing on the //c and since
I recently acquired an old Panasonic dot matrix (epson compat) in near
mint condition I was wondering how hard is it to plug this sucker in
the //c ?

As much as I love the look the //c and mine is in mint cond snow white
etc... I sortof wish I could find a IIe because they seem much easier
to modify and use standard ports etc...

thanks for any help you guys can offer!
