A few questions about IIGS battery ram

Hi,
I have a Rom 01 IIgs.  I have a few questions.
First, I've never had a battery die.  So I guess I'm spoiling a bit of fun
to ask this, heh.  But I understand that when the battery dies, the control
panel settings will probably reset to factory defaults.  But what do the
date and time reset to?  Also, any difference on a 03 machine?
Also, how, programaticly, is the battery ram accessed?  E.G. Davex has a
conp command which can read and change the control panel.  How's this done?
