Vintage Computer Society

I put forth the following idea:

There are a bunch of middle-aged and older people who, like me, are
beginning to want to relive an exciting time (computer-wise) in their
lives: the conception and birth of the information age. Now is the time
to develop a national user group for these older systems so we can get
together and discuss these great, old computers (kind of like antique
car clubs) and the fun that we HAD and ARE HAVING using them.

The thing that makes these old computers so much fun, is that like
antique cars, you don't need a EE degree to work on them and keep them
going.

Such a user group could include promotion of both the actual hardware
and the emulators for them. I can also see it as being a conduit to
take old computers and recycle them out to people who can still use
these old machines (the poor, schools, etc). Does anyone have any
experience in something like that? Any interest?

I can be involved in running the East Coast variant (I live in the DC
metro area).
