: That's how it was when I was in San Jose.
: There were whites, blacks, asians, and hispanics.
These all describe a wide variance.
White = anyone with very light pigmentation.
Black = anyone with fairly dark pigmentation.
Asian = people who are from the Asiatic region.
Hispanic = those who speak Spanish as their primary language.
: Nobody bothered to hyphenate each other, I suppose

Actually Native American is more correct than Indian.
Indians are people from India. Being the traders thought
they had landed in the West Indies, they decided to dub
the people they found here, West Indians, and then shortened
it to just, Indians. If you buy into the Bering Strate
theory, they are probably originally Chinese, or Russian
or a combination of cultures which cross-bred along the
way.
: But some people get pretty hung up over that sort

I agree, so, please just call me Bill, or William. :o)
: I did actually see one article that refered to
: European-Americans. It was the first time I'd
: ever seen anyone hyphenating everyone else, and
: also hyphenate white guys.
Not really, African-American hyphenated an entire
continent of people long ago, and that's really
silly to only call the black people from there
that one, being that there are quite a consensus
of whites in Africa. :o)
