Not really. The language card gives you 16K of bankswitched RAM that swaps out the ROM allowing for an alternate BASIC to be loaded high (hence the name); other programs use it too; 64K is really helpful to have because some programs do require it, but there are programs that run fine in 48 (if you have that much...)
