Sorry, I forgot you have a CD300!

It works for reading data, but there are problems. The Apple drivers 
only support the old single-speed Apple CD-ROM drives. Later drives can 
be used but the system will only recognise a CD if it is there when the 
system is booted, so you can't eject CDs and change them, and you can't 
play audio CDs at all. An updated driver would fix this, but no one ever 
released one.
