bootstrapping terminal emulator onto Apple IIe/c

Hi there --

I would like to make my Apple //c infinitely more useful through the
addition of a terminal emulator, like Z-Link or Kermit or another DOS
3.3-compatible, freely available program. I'm running into a
chicken-and-egg problem though, as I don't know how to get the
emulator from a modern computer to the Apple, however, without the aid
of said emulator.

Does anyone know how I can accomplish this? I have access to a
Windows PC with a 5.25" floppy drive, if that helps at all; I also
have Macs and Unix machines at my disposal. I've considered writing a
6502 machine code program (note: I also have no assembler for the
Apple) to slowly take in data through the joystick port, but I was
hoping there is an easier way.

Thanks, Usenet!
