     Opening the drive door gives a Disk II a pretty good thump. Could be
that after so many years an IC was nearly loose and the thump popped it
out, at least enough to break some connections.

     Besides ideas already mentioned, consider removing the drive cover
and scootching up and re-socketing each socketed IC and any connectors.
