: Hi there,
:
: my Apple //e shows "Apple //e" on startup, and works with
: my WorkStation Card, implying it's an enhanced //e. However,
: it doesn't diplay MouseText (inverted characters only). I'm
: not sure if it's an incomplete "manual" upgrade, as I got it
: free off an elderly gentleman who wouldn't be able to help me
: with its history.
:
: Is there any way I can check the appropriate chips and/or get
: the machine "up to spec"?
These are the chips you need for enhanced Beige //e
Apple //e Enhanced
65C02 CPU (sometimes marked 6503, but not a 6503)
342-0303 EF
342-0304 CD
342-0265 Video (Mousetext US)
Of course a Platinum //e would already be enhanced.
Very few programs actually use MouseText. One in
particular is ShrinkIt 3.4, and another is ProTerm.
There are others, but they will still run ok without
the Mousetext. I can burn you whatever you don't have
onto eproms. Luckily the //e uses PROMs with the same
pin configuration as the Eprom of the same size, the
other Apple IIs do not.
