The XL had a hardware modification to the screen resolution, so the pixels would be square, like the Mac. Then, of course, one ran the MacWorks software which allowed the Lisa to emulate a Mac. Sorta like the software that allowed a /// to emulate a ][Plus, except the MacXL could have up to 2 megs of RAM at a time when "real" Macs topped out at 512K.
