Michael, the higher the SCSI ID the higher priority that device gets on the SCSI bus so it makes sense that you want the controller card to have the highest ID and therefore the highest priority. I don't think it really makes much of a real world difference on most Apple II setups, though.
--<snip>--Thanks Jeff - moving the ID to something other than 7 doesn't seem to make much difference on my setup, as long as it doesn't conflict with another device. The card just doesn't want to cooperate with me when I move it to another slot (anything other than slot 7).
