: As discussed previously in this group, and mentioned in this thread (by
: Dave Althoff), you should be able to get the GS and Mac OS X talking by
: enabling AppleTalk File Sharing using the Sharepoints program (and
: SysPrefs pane) - see
: http://www.hornware.com/sharepoints/
: Mac OS X by default publicises servers via AppleTalk and TCP/IP, but
: only allows connections over TCP/IP. enabling AppleTalk on the server
: should let the GS login.
: My Apple //e Workstation Card arrived yesterday (woo-hoo!), and I'm just
: itching for the time to hook my //e, my IIgs and my Asante LocalTalk to
: Ethernet bridge up to my Ethernet network to see how it all connects to
: our OS 9 and OS X boxes. I will certainly post info once I've done that.
What I found with my system was that the IIgs could log in and *read*
files from the OS-X box, but when I tried to *write* files I got an odd
file permissions error.
By enabling AppleTalk on the OS-X box, I was able to log into the System 7
box and use that as a file server.
Now, does there exist a MacIP gateway daemon for Darwin? I can't believe
that a MacIP gateway is so frigging difficult that there are no software
solutions available for OS-X..........
So far, IPNetRouter has been a non-starter. It seems I can get Open
Transport working, or I can get my network working, but not
both...IPNetRouter requires Open Transport, but once it's up and running,
bye bye AppleTalk. Go figure.
