I opened it up, removed the guts (since the board hangs upside-down in the
section that needs to be drilled), and drilled holes on each of the long
sides covering a fair amount of the surface.

To help it out further, you can cut out a hole in the bottom of the case
under the keyboard and mount an 80mm case fan.  For power, you can tap the
power-supply +12 and ground leads, plug into the video modulator header
(don't recall offhand which pins you want), or run switched AC out of the
power supply into a small separate 12V DC supply to power the fan (used a
small 12V transformer from Radio Shack and a full-wave bridge rectifier,
capacitor, and 7812 regulator from the junkbox).  I suppose you could also
use a System Saver, but I never liked the idea of hanging a big ugly box off
the side of my computer. :-)
