: I know that. It's just a much smaller hard drive, which means
(1)
: reduced power consumption than a larger HD and (2) no worrying
about
: excessive write activity ruining it.
And they are fast as hell from what I have read.

: Years ago, I drilled a bunch of holes in the side of a IIe
power
: supply for better ventilation. It held up to 24/7 usage in a
loaded
: system fairly well. (I still have it...it replaced the power
supply
: that just died on me.) Other than that, I don't know that
there's
: much else that can be done. Even that isn't something Apple
would've

Hold on now. If letting the magic smoke escape kills them,
then how did yours work after you drilled holes in it. I'm
confused. 8-)
But seriously, that is very interesting. Did you drill vent holes
in both sides? I'll bet the System Saver would keep it next to
room
temperature with holes in both sides and the fan sucking air
through
from the opposite side. Sounds like a very easy way to improve on
the stability of Apple II power supplies without worry. BTW, it
seems
to me that Apple like to create product that needs to be replace
fairly frequently, where they can of course.
