That's one of the great advantages of the TimeMaster II H.O. --
it has a rechargeable battery pack built in. Of course when the
rechargeable batteries finally do die, you have to desolder the
pack, but it's better than changing batteries IMO.

Plain old alkaline N cells last a long time in the Thunderclock,
but mine was in storage for 5+ years and when I took it out the
batteries had leaked and the positive ends of the battery holders
(which are metal) were so corroded that when I tried to clean them,
they just literally fell to pieces.
