I recently acquired an original Apple II and I have a question about the keyboard. Most original II's have a different keyboard than the II+ models and the difference is noticed at the power button. Mine looks like a II+ keyboard but it doesn't have a separate keyboard encoder board like on the II+. Did Apple use a newer style keyboard toward the end of the original II line in 1979? Thanks, Vince
If you mean a newer style as in having a keyboard encoder board then I don't think so. However I'm not sure how much overlap there was in production if any. I believe the change from II to II+ label came when the Rev 4 motherboard was in production as I have both a II and II+ with this same motherboard. They also sport the same keyboard which doesn't use a separate keyboard encoder. The power light on this board is flat like the later ones but instead of being fairly flush with the case protrudes a bit. Wayne
