Re: New Apple II BBS

Hardware has gotten out of hand at the thrift store I scan as well. I don't
know if they expect somebody to ever pay that much or if they send the stuff
to auction after awhile if it doesn't sell retail. All I know is the stuff
I scoff at is no longer there when I go back a few weeks later to check for
new goodies. A lot of thrift stores won't even accept TVs, computers, etc
because there is so much surplus out there.

I have gotten lucky with software recently though. Off topic for csa2 but I
found The Sims and Simtower and Traffic Giant at a thrift store for $3.25
each in jewel cases and all work great. The thrift store I peruse just
throws all their CDs in a rack whether audio or data and sells them all for
$3.25 so you can find some goodies sometimes.

Haven't seen any apple II stuff at my local thrift stores in ages through.

When I ran my BBS it went on line with a 300 baud zoom modem and 2 5.25"
floppy drives on GBBS "Pro". So this post brings back memories. Hardly
enough room on the ~140k x 2 drives for the source code let alone any games,
messages, files, etc. Eventually I made it up to 64mb hard drive and 2400
baud before it went down in 1992. I just paid $10 for a 64mb jumpdrive that
is hooked to my keychain and is a lot lighter and cheaper and quieter than
the $400 5.25" FH 64MB SCSI I bought for the BBS in 1990! Still have that
HD. Makes a good paperweight. The lights dim and the power company sends a
couple trucks over whenever I spin it up, but it does still work.
