Err.. Spoke too soon! Just saw the message that it's back up!
Ultimately, I think that if a BBS is a fun place to hang out at,
you'll have a successful BBS. Whether it's games, message boards, or
live chat.. It helps, of course, to be ACCESSIBLE.. Dialup BBS's
suffer these days since there's just not many people willing to call
long distance. And chances are that there won't be many "local"
callers, especially if you don't live in a highly populated area like
New York City or something. Though I did recently get on a phone plan
that's a flat $60/month and I can call anywhere in the USA at no
charge.. If not for that, I would probably not call; just too
expensive!
Then there's the advertising campaign. If you don't advertise it,
then who will call? :) If you can, set up a telnet BBS system. It
will attract a lot more callers since it will be easy (and free) to
get to.
