I don't normally use a 600e but I had one so tried it with a ramfast
Rev D ROM 3.01f and it seemed to work alright.
The ramfast identifies the drive as a MATSHITACD-ROM CR-8005A.

Have you got the appropriate FST for whatever format the CD is in?
