By copying every flux transition, without regard to its "meaning".
If you made a magnetic "contact print" of a disk onto another disk,
it would be a perfect copy, yet nothing in the process "understood"
anything about what is on the disk. (This process, BTW, can work
for some magnetic media, though, of course, it is not tolerant of
any defects in the destination media.)
