I've never used the IIe card, but from what I understand the display
handling is better in the later, faster LC computers. The original LC
was a bit too slow to do it in software.
I recently picked up a Mac Plus and installed the program "][ in a Mac" (
available from http://emulation.net/apple2/), an old software-only Apple
IIe emulator. It only works properly on the original "toaster" Macs
running System 6 or earlier, so this was the first opportunity I've had
to see it running. By gad, it actually works too! It only runs at about
1/2 to 2/3 real speed, but it's doing it all in software on an 8MHz Mac.
