: PS: IF someone were able to recreate the Transwarp, using the
: 14 mhz 65c02 and 16 megs of RAM shouldn't be that much more,
: and maybe less than using a 4 mhz 65c02 and 256K of DRAM.

I forgot to express the memory issue.
You can only access 64KB banks with the
available 16 address lines. That 16 MB
will require switching between 256 x 64K
banks which will be nearly impossible to
do with the same 16 address lines. Could
be done, but for what purpose?

If you study carefully the RAMWorks series by AE, you will see that they have extended Apple's bankswitching so that the //e and //c can have megabytes of RAM. To what purpose? Well, if you use AppleWorks 3.0 or higher, and the various TO utilites, things speed up dramatically since all are loaded into RAM and you don't have the constant accessing of the disk drives for new overlays everytime you try to do something - a problem that was a real drag for users of WordStar on CP/M and MS-DOS machines.

There are a few other applications for the 8 bit IIs that can also utilize the additional RAM. And of many that can't, you could still create a RAM disk and run the app from there, giving further increases in speed (WordPerfect comes to mind here.)

The biggest problem with a "new" Transwarp would be the PALs. How to duplicate, or replace them. I, frankly, haven't got a clue.
