I believe the only Copy II Plus version that does 1.44

none of the version 7's would, and the only next higher

1.44 disks with it, I never tried to run MS-DOS Utilities on
a IIe, and I only have superdrives on my GS now. Peter, if you
are around, can you answer this for us?

I have versions 6, 7, 8 and 9 and they all format 1.44mb disks.
It doesn't take any special utility to format 1.4mb floppies.
Any utility that formats ProDOS will do. Some early ones might not
let you select any slot but 6 or might only use the slot it was
booted from, which would make things awkward.

You are correct in that some versions of Copy II Plus won't work
for this. Versions 1 to 5 were preProDOS so can't do ProDOS at all.
I should have mentioned that.

It's been years since I tried anything with HFS and a IIe. I didn't
need to since I had Macs that read ProDOS disks. Of course now the
currant Macs don't so I guess for some people it may be important.
With HFS and the IIe, HFSLink andA2FX come to mind.
