Re: Appleworks v5

Why version 5.0? The lastest and last version of AppleWorks for the Apple II is
version 5.1.

The uploads on Asimov are pirated copies and (especially the "subdirectory"
version) were put there by somebody who didn't know what they were doing. If
you must download pirated copies, get the two-disk version, and not somebody's
idea of an installed version. Sorry, I do not know a thing about disk images,
so you may wish to take my advice with a grain of salt.

To answer your question -- as it starts up, the program is looking for the
Inits disk. When you get this error message, just press Escape, and the program
will proceed without it. The same thing may happen with the TimeOut location,
so again, press Escape and the program will ignore it.

Later, go into Standard Settings (OA-Q OA-S is a good shortcut to know), and
configure AppleWorks to either (a) turn off inits (you may not want those
features yet), or (b) set the location of the inits according to your
subdirectory name. For example, /HD1/AW/AW.Inits. Do the same thing for the
TimeOut location. For example, /HD1/AW/TO. This will eliminate those error
messages on startup.

By the way, if you are a legal owner of AppleWorks, any version (which you can
buy for $5 on ebay), I will update you to AppleWorks 5.1. This way, you know
you are getting the right thing. However, I do not do disk images, if that is
what you need.
