That was only part of the hobbling. More important was the "ROM is
cheaper than RAM, so we'll put the programs in ROM" leading to minimal
memory, which wasn't directly accessible at that. On top of that was
that idiotic keyboard which prevented the 99 from being used as anything
but a toy (there was *no* key where the ; goes!), and it was doomed
beforeo it left the factory.
