I think its AppleWorks version 2.0; it doesn't get as far as the help
screen.

I think the RAM card is an AE product.  I used to use Appleworks with a
Laser 128 and it didn't have these issues.  Is a more recent version of
Appleworks available from one of the archives (e.g. ground) that includes
the appropriate patches?
