I'm not so concerned with missing bytes at this point. Since all the files
had different lengths it probably reflects the actual disk data.

It's the dropped hi bit that stumps me. One could speculate that the buffer
had a bad ram causing the problem but you would expect to see a recurring
pattern. It's the seemingly random pattern over the 512 bytes that is odd.
And yet it's intriguing ,that random pattern is identical on 512 bytes of
another disk in the collection.
