I think the CD format is pretty close (at least from a consumer
standpoint). Smaller disc formats have failed to catch on, mainly becase
they are too small to be comfortably handled by big clumsy humans... I
think there is still a good deal of development to be done, such as
tape-like read/write capable media and equipment - and of course
increasing storage capacity. Of course my business depends on the CD
format remaining dominant for a while, so I'm a bit biased maybe ;-)
