Hello guys,
while pursuing a prominent career as a lifetime Sinclair ZX Spectrum
freak, I finally sold myself to the idea of owning the Apple ][ I
always admired in my childhood, and giving it the TLC it deserves.
Well, so much for the introduction; a couple of days ago I received a
apparently well-kept, reasonabily priced Apple clone (during the 80's
these were quite common low-cost replacements for the real thing, at
least here in Italy). The innards are those of a classic 48K machine,
with three 4116 RAM banks, the familiar six ROMS and the standard 6502
next to the expansion slots. Only a 16K taiwan-made expansion card was
included. While waiting further deals to collect the missing important
peripherals, I have a few questions for the gurus:
1) The memory expansion has a DIL16 terminated flat cable which is
unplugged. I remember replacing a socketed TTL somewhere on the
mainboard with this cable, but I don't remember which. Any hint?
2) The system switched on in 40 column mode, as expected for a system
without built-in 80 column card. Which kind of card(s) should I look
after?
That's all for now, but I'll keep pestering you all with new questions
as the beast grows :-)
SeeYa!
Andrea
