The first computer I had access to was a Univac 7200. Of course there
were no Apple computers at that time. This was in Vo-Tech School.
After graduation in '72, I didn't really have any computer exposure until
'79 when I worked in machining and we used a teletype connected to
phone lines and accessed a remote computer for CNC programming.
In '81-'82 I got into Atari game machines and soon after that got a 400,
an 800, and several XL's. I later got 2 ST's and soon after built an IBM
compatible XT and was using PS/2's in the shop for CNC work. Since then,
I have built many IBM compatibles and the one I use now has been
upgraded many times. In August of '2002 I saw someone throwing a
VCR in the trash dumpster at my doctor's office and decided to look at
it. In with the VCR were a Mac LC with monitor, an Apple IIgs and
monitor, plus a box full of drives and keyboards and mice. This is the
first real exposure to Apple I have ever had. I knew they existed but
never really had a desire to have one. Now I wish I had. I believe it
was the higher cost that steered me away from Apple in the early days.
Atari was so much cheaper and had all the features I needed.
Had I known at the time how versatile and upgradable Apples were,
I would have suffered the greater cost to have them. Anyway, I plan
to keep the Apples that I have and hope to perpetuate their existance
for as long as I can. I also want an Atari XL again. I still love them.
