Re: Is there a version of Lynx for the Apple II/IIGS?

I could see why it could have been read that way now
that I reread my post. I was writing from the point of
view of an old timer although I do not consider myself
one of the bitter old timers. Even near the end of the
IIGS' lifecycle I kept a positive outlook.

But I could see how those bitter attitudes came to be,
witnessing what happened in the past. For myself, at
the time I was probably more on the defensive against
the naysayer group than the bitter old-timers so I do
somewhat understand them. On the other hand, I did
run up against several of the more bitter ones that
are, thankfully, no longer participating in csa2.

All I can say is that I understand how they came to
be this way but I don't excuse it.

The most bitter of the old timers really were acting very
terrible at the time. There was one who kept picking on
a young kid just getting into the Apple IIGS full of
enthusiasm. That guy, a bitter old timer, was WAY
out of line, as in "if you don't know what your saying,
don't post stupid." His favorite catch phrase had to do
with resumes. I never quite understood that. I think he
had just graduated from college and had stress after
he landed a job or something but all that talk was quite
obviously a Freudian slip.

That guy was a IIGS programmer and he had a lot of
skill. But when he left he just about blamed everyone
in the Apple II world, guilty or not, and low-level
formatted his hard disk drive of IIGS projects so he
said.

Yep, I encountered a lot of that mentality. Just to give
you an example: there was one very vocal Mac user
who thought himself an Apple II "collector" who seemed
to make every effort to derail the Apple II. He liked to
talk of Apple II's as fish tanks or how great the Mac
was compared to the Apple II. One time someone had
asked if it were possible to convert a UniDisk 3.5 into
an Apple 3.5 drive. I told the user how to do this and
this Mac user started attacking saying how collectable
the UniDisk was and all. Another time, I told a user how
to covert a Profile hard drive to SCSI. Again, the Mac
user attacked. There were other examples. He seemed
to feel that the ROM 00 Woz IIGS with 256MB on an
Apple IIGS Memory card was the ideal collector unit.

I suppose it was just a different point of view. Everyone
is entitled to their view. Being derailed is what I don't
agree with.

Looking back, I can understand the reaction I got from users
when I wrote about my PC-in-IIGS case project. They were
probably seeing the project like the above example. The
difference, of course, is that I actually have a decked out
IIGS which is representative of what the best the IIGS could
be.

Sure, no harm done.

Yes, it is rather sad the hardened attitudes of the bitter old
timers. Believe me by the time I stopped posting on csa2
I got attacked from them as well as the naysayers because
"you're either with us or against us."

But I understand the origins of that bitterness. Remember
that MP3 to IIGS conversion thread a few weeks back?
Take a look at one of the negative responses with the link
to the crazy "psycoacoustic" article...that will give you an
idea of what was happening last time I was on csa2.
