Actually, the PC and the Mac (and the Superdrive-equipped Apple II)
use the same recording technology for 1.44MB disks: MFM. The
only issue is the software interpretation of the on-disk data structures
(the file system). Add-on software can bridge this gap, and, of course,
the System 7-? Macs (with PC Exchange) can read and write with
several file systems, including ProDOS, HFS, and FAT (PC).
With appropriate software the IIgs can do the same. System 6.01
can do ProDOS and HFS natively, and can read FAT file systems.
With Peter Watson's MUG, it can both read and write FAT disks.
