The metal backpanel with cutouts is certainly an improvement over
the V slots.  But when the ][ case was designed, it was a huge
improvement over an open breadboard with no case at all.  ;-)

And at that early date, no one was particularly concerned about
RFI, which is the real reason for the metal backpanel introduced
with the //e.  And strain relief was a non-problem for the dedicated
computer hobbyist, since all cables were very flexible and very slack.
