4/2/03 update: Gave up on the Jazz on my Powerbook . I thought maybe the
drive really was going to sleep on the gs, as someone suggested. I changed
the 'sleep' time via Iomega Tools on my Powerbook. (Not sure if this
actually changed the sleep time on the drive, however. Mybe just the
software, most likely. One thing i DID learn on the mac. The 'sllep' time
for the drive is set at 15 minutes by Iomega from the factory. that MAY
have been why the original low level format failed?? It was going ok, and
just stopped afgteer about 15'....
Sooo, then unhooked the Jazz and took it back to the GS. Hooked it up as
the ONLY SCSI device. Ran the Ramfast utilities and they still SAW the
drive and told me to format the cartridge, which I tried. After about 30
seconds, the format stopped and I got the message:
Ramfast MLI ERROR!
Command:03-04 84 00 60 00 00 00 00
Status: 01
I'm 99% sure the problem is with the media- some sort of different
formatting than the standard 100 meg zip cartridge.
The choices:
1) send the cartridges back to Iomega (they gave me an RMA) or
2)try Anubis onm the mac to low level format and partition and see if the gs
likes that.....
Any bets??
