Re: Apple II case preferences....

What's interesting is that the Apple II and II+ cases do not suffer from
oxidation like the IIe and later models. The IIe beige seemed to yellow
quite easily. I think the II/II+ case doesn't suffer the yellowing effect
because the case wasn't actually plastic, which is why, like you said, is
sturdy. Instead, the beige color was painted onto the shell. I actually have
a bottle of the very paint that Apple used. You used to be able to buy a
bottle of the paint from Apple as a service part so you can touch up those
scratches.

I actually like the IIe platinum case the best of all of them. I like it
because it's very easy to open and close, it didn't have those tabs that
kept coming off like the II/II+, it had the numeric keypad built-in, and the
platinum color was a lot more eye appealing than the beige color. Beige to
me seems like it's dirty. It's never been a color I've liked.

I completely hate the IIGS case simply because it was a pain to open. You
have to push those two tabs inward with your thumbs, the push up on the
cover at the same time with your other fingers in order to open. And those
tabs are very tricky. Even today, after opening these things since 1986, I
still have difficulties, probably because my fingers are double-jointed and
they bend backwards quite easily.

The IIc/IIc+ case is nice and portable. But I personally don't like
portables in general.
